Officials prepare for potential freight strike.
Passenger railroad company Amtrak announced that they will cancel three long-distance routes starting Tuesday in case of a freight rail strike that could start on Friday. Amtrak will be suspending its routes from Chicago to Los Angeles, Chicago to Seattle, and Chicago to San Francisco. Though a freight rail strike could halt all long-distance routes, in the meantime Amtrak will keep running most of their local lines, saying that “only a small number of Northeast Regional departures would be impacted” for most of this week.
“While we are hopeful that parties will reach a resolution, Amtrak has now begun phased adjustments to our service in preparation for a possible freight rail service interruption later this week,” Amtrak officials stated on Monday.
